Activities around the topic "Tree's", continues!
Sharing few activities around Bubu's new obsession of trees.
The onset of fall season and the changing colors of the leaves, has lead Bubu to observe and be fascinated by trees around us. We have been doing few activities around his new obsession of trees you can read our previous post for more tree related activities. As the lockdown is still on its all home/neighbourhood activities.
Art projects
#1 Leaf objects
We have a lot of sweetgum trees in our neighborhood. During fall season just like maple the leaves change color to various shades of yellow, orange and red. On our daily neighborhood walks Bubu would pick some and notice its colors and patterns. One day he announced he is going to get some home to make a art project. We brought some home and brainstormed together what do the leaves look like or could be turned into. Bubu's idea was to make a pair of pants and a dress. So we went ahead and made "leaf people". But you can turn it into whatever your Bubu wants. Brainstorming is the most fun, creative activity. We always come up with super ideas.
Let's make it
You will need
Card sheet/paper: for base
Leaves
Ice cream stick
Glue
Marker/pen
Process
Go for a field trip to find beautiful leaves. This could be in your backyard, neighborhood, hike or walk in nature. The color, shape, size of the leaf does not matter. PS: Get 2 - 3 similar leaves. Bubu had a huge meltdown once before when one of the dried leaves crumbled before pasting. To avoid meltdowns having extras is a blessing.
Press the leaves for 2-3 days by placing them between the pages of a thick book. Add tissue paper on both sides of the leaf, to avoid the leaf from staining the pages.
We used ice-cream stick to make the body of the "leaf people". Then we stuck the leaves to look like a dress and a pant. We also made a cupcake liner dress because the artist aka Bubu suddenly thought of this idea while we were making the project.
Use a marker to detail out things like adding hands, face etc.
Use card sheet, paper or cardboard as a base. Paste using tape, glue or hot glue depending on the object. You could draw a background and color before pasting. We left ours plain.
Thats it. Looks so pretty and ready in 15 minutes.
Bubu presented his artwork in his class at Montessori for 'Show & Tell'. Apparently the 2 ladies are his teachers and the boy is him and they are fixing the school roof!? Probably he picked it up at school, they recently repaired their roof and so Bubu has imagined himself and teachers doing the same.
#2 Leaf stamping
This is a project from my childhood, I did the a lot. It's great to learn and observe different textures in nature or objects around you.
Let's make it
You will need
Paper
Leaves
Paint
Brush
Process
Go for a field trip to find interesting different shapes leaves. This could be in your backyard, neighborhood, hike or walk in nature. PS: Get 2 - 3 similar leaves. Bubu had a huge meltdown once before when one of the dried leaves crumbled before pasting. To avoid meltdowns having extras is a blessing.
Paint the most textured side of the leaf with paint.
Place the paint side on the paper and apply pressure without moving the leaf. This will help to get, most of the texture imprinted on the paper. And you are done.
We labeled our leaf prints with the type of tree it belonged to.
Again this was an art work Bubu presented at 'Show & Tell' in his Montessori. He said he was excited to share details about his backyard and the trees it has.
