Staycation

Updated: Nov 5, 2020

The new way to go on a vacation during lockdown!

Lockdown getaway.

We took a small vacation, I rephrase staycation early July. It was a very pleasant experience and would love to share our lil adventure during lockdown.

Picking a holiday destination

We decided to go somewhere close. We picked Sonoma as it is close by. It's at a short driving distance 1-2 hrs away from our home, great as you can reach the destination without using a restroom break. Especially now that Bubu uses the restroom and the covid + lockdown is still strong.

We booked AirBnB. AirBnb have new rules to ensure safety called 'Enhanced Cleaning'. It has special disinfecting guidelines to help cope with the current pandemic. We trusted, and took the plunge. And we are glad we did, as it was a great break from the routine mundane.

Things we did

We both took a holiday from work. Which was relaxing in itself :) We were mostly at home. Playing board games, watching TV. The house came with a Jacuzzi in the backyard, which we enjoyed everyday for an hour. We also took the time to read a book/chilled in the backyard while Bubu practiced his balance bike, or chatted across the fence with the neighbors goat . Went for long drives and hiked a couple days during the week as its less crowded compared to the weekends.

No culturally enriching vacation that we all are used to. It was relaxing home away from home kind of vacation.

What we packed

We just packed like we would on a regular day, just our clothes and toys for Bubu. No extra anything. I think we just trusted our host and AirBnb.

Food

This we had to preplan a little and pack a lot, coz you may not have restaurants deliver or you may want to avoid togo completely. We packed all ready-to-eat from Trader Joes for us adults. It sufficed us for the main meals. For breakfast we brought bread from a local bakery 'Wildflower Bakery' and cheese from a creamery on our way, at Bodega bay. It tastes like heaven.

For Bubu I packed uncooked:- pasta, rice, roti, frozen veggies, paneer, soya chunks, eggs, cheese, salt, ghee, garlic + onion powder. These ingredients are enough to whip up quick meals like pizza roti, veggie/egg quesadilla, veggie pasta, fried rice ... all you need is 10 mins and imagination.

We enjoyed our staycation! I think the best part was we could hang out with each other without the distraction of work. It's just been a few days we are back home, and Bubu misses his vacation already . He also misses jacuzzi time with us both. He really enjoyed all the attention and time from both parents together. <3
