I little bit of a school at home.
A place where we can focus on the "learn as you play" schedule.
Monday, 16 March 2019, onwards our state went in a lockdown. I had preped all weekend - made a timetable and thought of tons of activities to do in our "home school" to keep my toddler busy. I imagined this period of lockdown would be a fun time me and Bubu will have. He will love all the fun stuff I have planned for him and we will be laughing, giggling, learning as we play.
And like any other plan a parent makes, my dream vision shattered on Monday :)
It was a chaos. Bubu was so distracted and didn't want to cooperate to any of the activities. But that did not mean he could entertain himself in his own independent play, was bored constantly and needed to connect, and threw a lot of tantrums. I got no work done that day too. One of the things I realized that day, our play room definitely cannot be our home school. We need a place where we can focus on the "learn as you play" schedule.
What I did was simple! I just moved Bubu's table and chairs in the living room. Added couple baskets to hold art supply. Ddedicated a place/basket to hold his water. Now our setup is a good anchor to our "learn and play" schedule. We do activities like stickers, scissor work, chalk, sensory play and snack time here. Some parts of math, language and visual activities are occasionally done here and some parts of these topics are more playful so they happen in the play room. Creative, sports actvity happen on the floor or in the play room.
Bubu loves this new setup. He say's its like his Montessori. He even added pictures to what he calls "house school" he found in the garage, just like he has in his real school. Someone feels right at school at home, a sentence I never thought I would say.
