One of the most important activity we do to keep and teach our Bubu personal hygiene. You need quite a few things for this small activity.
The most amount of products in my list are something I need before, during or after bath time.
Bathtime feels like it’s the most tiniest part of the day. Since Bubu started to stand around 10 months, we switched to shower which takes five minutes. But the most amount of products in my list are something I need before, during or after bath time. So here goes.
#1 Almond oil
We used almond oil for before bath massage from 0 to 24 months. That’s how it's traditionally done as per Ayurveda. I still give Bubu a massage with oil and then lotion, but now it is after bath. Almond oil is great toner so it evens out all the skin tone difference and also lightens the skin color. The key to choose a good oil is to go for organic and cold pressed. There are tons of options to choose from on Amazon, I always try a different brand, have tried 5 - 6 brands and never has it been a bad experience.
#2 Bathtub
We choose to go with Rinse 'n Grow Tub by Fisher-Price. The reason being it had a smooth tub floor and comes with a bath sling for newborn stage; this helps you to bathe a newborn child upto two years. If I compare it to the tubs that come with contours on the tub-floor it restricts what age and size of child can use it, making it wasteful.
Now after outgrowing it, we use our tub for water play. Just add water in the tub and give Bubu mugs, jugs, cups, spoons. He really enjoys it as it's a large water surface for his play. My neighbor said she used her tub as a sensory bin with materials or ball-pit balls for her twins when they were toddlers. Looks like it's going to be used for water or sensory play until he outgrows that type of play form.
#3 Rinser
Moby Bath Tear-Free Waterfall Rinser by Skip Hop is a great design. I love the wide mouth with the rubber rim and the amount of water it can hold. It makes head bath easy as the rubber spout protects face and its large size helps 2-3 mugfull to wash off all the shampoo from the hair. We used it from newborn stage up until now and I can imagine many more years to come.
#4 Body + hair wash
I have tried all the organic body and hair wash and the one we settled on or rather we loved was Simply Non-Scents Baby Wash Gentle Castile Soap by Earth Mama. I love all Earth Mama products as they are made with organic, all natural ingredients, no chemicals. This one has a foamer head so the soap is dispensed as foam. It comes in a 34 oz bottle and it never finishes I have almost used ours for 6 months and it still feel full. Its magic.
I used the ayurvedic home made blend of turmeric, milk, cream, flour for almost two years until a month before Bubu’s 2nd birthday his skin developed some rash. We have switched to this wash and I don’t have any complaints.
#5 Body lotion
Initially for almost two years I used almond oil after bath as a lotion. His skin developed some rash just a month before Bubu’s 2nd birthday. After the rash I moved on to accept a lotion, I love the baby lotion by Earth Mama. It comes in three scents: lavender, orange, no-scent and all three are good. I researched all the brands that claim they are organic. Earth mama is the only one whose products are made with organic, all natural ingredients and has no chemicals or preservatives. Just love it.
I would love to go back to my all natural, organic, cold-pressed oil concoction soon. I will keep you informed if I do.
#6 Hair brush
Our Baby Brush and Comb Set is by Kent. Back in the days they would make hair brushes for the kings. Their speciality is they use natural bristles to make their hair-brushes. Due to that the scalp and red blood cells are stimulated, which naturally encourages hair growth. By brushing with bristle the natural oils (sebum) that are produced in one’s scalp are released and distributed along the hair shaft. Hair is maintained, healthy, shiny and glossy, thus encouraging growth.
All bristles are hand-trimmed in the Kent factory, which means each bristle is different length. So why not use it for your Bubu prince/princess. We have used ours from newborn days until date.
Bonus: One fluff product :)
#7 Bath Thermometer
As per Ayurveda babies are given a hot water bath. As per American standards the bath water is supposed to be just warm to touch. My partner and I had so many arguments on this that I think this was a good investment to make. It’s confusing if you are a first-time parent. So, this is not a necessary product but if you are in the same boat you can try this. We brought the Baby Bath Thermometer by MotherMed. We have been giving Bubu a shower since he was ten months old so we literally used it only until nine months, very wasteful product but definitely helps with easing out the stress.
All product are going strong for the last two plus years and still counting. Hope this was helpful and you found some things to add to your baby registry or your shopping/gift list for the holidays.
If you liked this blog post, you might enjoy other blog posts that talk about what to buy for baby, why I feel it’s a good buy, how we used it earlier and how we use it now. As there are a lot of baby product’s I have broken them down into categories and written separate blog posts on each. Click on the category you want to explore.
