How we announced to our parents and siblings that we were pregnant.
We had a planned pregnancy, where we were just chilling for the first five years of our life as a married couple. We were lucky to be blessed, and get pregnant as soon as we thought we were ready. This made us excited to announce the pregnancy to our parents, as they were asking for a grandchild forever.
This project turned out unique, as it was visually beautiful, personalized and relatively easy to make. Also compact to store as a memory, and something parents/sibling will love to showoff as it is unique instead of tee, magnet etc which they may not wear/use.
Lets make it:
You will need
Greeting Card
Sound Module for Greeting Card
Process
Record the message on your sound module (comes with a step-by-step instruction sheet). We recorded a song from a Marathi comedy classic movie Aashi Hi Banva Banvi. There is this a hilarious song announcing pregnancy of one character in the movie, "Konitari Yenar Yenar Ga". It was a inside joke in our family so it just added a personal touch to the message. But you can record whatever you want, your limitation is your own creativity. So go wild!
Stick the module on the card as per instructions. I was making 4 cards in total one for each ones parent + sibling. I chose popup cards, two with stroller and 2 with a crib. They were very intricate, just loved the details. This part was hard as some music modules were just not playing when I opened the card as the sticker had lost its taught-ness. I literally spent 2 hours a day on each card to make them play. To hide the module, I cut a paper and stuck it to the back of the card.
An easy way out is this other product that is already installed with the music module. You do get to personalize the card, as you can still record a personal message, write a message inside and decorate the front cover and you are set. I sort of had no choice as I had spent $50 for 4 cards and I didn't want it to go waste, but researched options if you guys want to try this out.
Done your musical card is ready to ship to your loved ones.
I like that it is personalized, compact to store as a memory, and something parents/sibling will love to show-off as it is unique instead of tee, magnet etc which they may not wear/ use.
On a side note be sure to ship with a reliable company with guaranteed delivery. We sent through USPS in regular mail and 1 card did not reach till date. We ended up making that particular card again which lead in late announcement to that set of parents. I know it sounds like it was a terrible as all the effort was double and partly the amount of $ spent too but frankly in the end the surprise it got on our parents faces was worth it. They really appreciated the creativity and the idea, and so did everyone who saw it after that.
Side project
I wanted to see our parents/sibling expression and document it in a video. For that they needed to open the package for the very first time in front of us on a video call. So that they do not open the package as soon as they receive, we told a little white lie.
We told them we had sent some visa documents, so if you receive inform us immediately, do not open it just store it in a cupboard until we come over in our next trip to India.
So whenever we received a message from anyone of them saying "we received your package", we would have a video call that night. We would enquire about the package and say "can you get it here and open it in front of the screen". They didn't expect a thing and it went smoothly as expected, a huge pleasant surprise.
For the siblings we said it's a gift :P, and we want you to open in front of us on a video call. Well, aren't niece/nephew supposed to be as good as a gift!
