Our DIY space objects. We are still adding to our collection, stay tuned.
It all began with the moon!
It all began by seeing the moon in the sky, everyday. Bubu recently is obsessed with space and objects in the space. To support his curiosity, we have read a lot of books on moon, sun, earth, solar system, atlas, seen flash cards etc like I mentioned in my last blog-post.
Naturally he wanted a moon, sun, planets ... everything to play with. It would have been easy to just buy something online but I thought lets make it instead. That way Bubu gets into a creative mode of problem solving by making things instead of just buying and adding to the future land fills. All the supplies are from our recycle bin and craft drawer.
Let's make it
You will need
Round container lids (from your recycle bin) x 3
Colored tissue paper
Modge-podge
Sponge brush
Process
You can pre-cut the tissue to small 2 cm x 2 cm pieces or ask your Bubu to tear the paper to small pieces. I cut the tissue in front of my Bubu. I asked him to choose the tissue colors he wanted each for sun, moon and earth.
Squeeze some modge-dodge on one lid and let your Bubu spread it with a sponge or brush.
Demonstrate how to stick 1 - 2 pieces and let your Bubu take the lead from there.
My Bubu decided he wanted goggly eyes for them too. Just like in his favorite book series.
This is how they turned out. Bubu wanted to make the sun rays too, but got distracted at this stage and started playing solar and lunar eclipse.
We had a lot of other fun space adventures, read the last blogpost to know more.
